I started my adventure in digital media back in 2002 when my brothers and I decided to make some homemade lightsabers and film us fighting each other. This eventually turned into a big deal for me as I got a lot of attention in the Star Wars fan film community for my lightsaber special effect and compositing. Eventually though, I wanted to expand out of the Star Wars genre for a while and try something original with our short films.
After a short break we started developing a concept for a quick and easy-to-make series of episodes about a ninja duo that fights mythical creatures and machines. The "Ninja Team" series was born out of this with 5 episodes under our belt at this time. The only episode I did solo work on was the second episode, which used only still images to create all the special effects.
In January of 2006 I joined a team of people from around the world to work on a videogame project called First Strike which is distributed for free on the internet. First Strike is a Star Wars modification for the retail game called Battlefield 2142 by EA games and all the members worked for free in their spare time. I was hired on as a UV mapper and texture artist early in the project's development and still remain as an active member. First Strike is still going strong to this day, with over 40,000 downloads in the first 2 days of our initial September release.
Around the time I joined the First Strike team I felt interested enough in video and 3d to apply at NAIT's Digital and Interactive Media program, which also incorporates web coding, Flash, and graphics. While at school, I have become proficient in most areas of digital media and have recieved honours in the first 2 semesters of the program. I am currently in the 3rd semester and specializing in 3d animation, but I am also very capable in video compositing and graphics.
