3D

My most recent 3d/video project. This was made for my final project for 3D class at school. Every scene except 2 were changed in some way; either by replacing the sky with something a little more acceptable or adding full 3d jets, robots, particle effects or stock footage. I am quite proud of the way it turned out and if I had another week to work on it I could tighten up some of the effects. For this project, everything was done by me.

I used After Effects and Lightwave to do all the 3D and compositing.

This interior was created for a class assignment. As always I modeled and textured everything. The lighting on this room went through many iterations as it's challenging to get good lighting without using a 3rd party render software in lightwave. The refective balls are placed in the scene for fun as I wanted to place something surreal into the scene.

All the modeling was done mostly in the November except a few objects, like the plant, which were modeled around early spring of 2007.

These planes were modeled for a movie trailer which I have been making for a final project in the 3rd semester in NAIT's Digital and Interactive media program. In the movie trailer, the planes will be attacking a robot which fell to Earth incased in a meteor. This image was rendered for fun, but it turned out so well that I keep it in my portfolio. The jets were modeled, unwraped and textured by myself.

The planes were kept as low poly as possible, as I have a background in videogames which has strict poly counts, to keep render times low. I knew I would be pressed for time so I took steps to insure I would finish.

These are a couple of cute robots that I made one evening just for fun. Over the summer I had some evenings free so I would try to model and render a scene every evening I had free. Unlike my school work, this was created all in 3ds Max. I thought I should learn a few modeling programs as I have no idea what programs I'll be using when I get a job in the industry.

The textures on this one are minimal, as concept and modeling took up a mojority of the evening. I'm still happy with this one as the robots are quite cute and look like something that would appeal to children.

Ah, the pear again. That pear follows me everywhere. The cup and scene were done on one of my free evenings over the summer of 2007. The pear was imported into 3ds Max, where I continued to polish off the scene with a nice cup that was sitting on my desk. I tried to use something new in 3ds Max everytime I modeled something, so this was my first attempt to using Mesh smoothing; as seen on the cup.

I had lots of fun with this scene as the pear and cup have some nice chemistry. Maybe one day they will settle down and have some kids together. The textures were all created from scratch in Photoshop.

These balls were created using a tutorial on lighting techniques in 3ds Max. The blue light is an area light within the ball shining through the translucent blue polygons, creating a nice blue light. This was also my real first attempt at setting up a scene in 3ds Max, as well as using the chamfer tools.

With this scene I learned a lot about how to set up lighting, adjusting light tracer and radiosity settings and some some rendering options, most of which I still use when rendering in 3ds Max.

I was talking to a friend of mine and asked her what to model that evening. She suggested a rubber duck. The rest of the scene came from me wanting to try something besides just a plain white background, so I modeled a tub, some taps and walls, and I magically had myself a nice bathroom scene. The rubber duck took a while to model as I had never attempted anything organic looking before. I mostly model machinery which contains hard edges and smooth surfaces.

The textures really bring out the realism in this scene. The tiles and duck have bump maps that add to the detail that I was too lazy to model, and the materials on the tub and faucet are convincing enough.

This pear was actually created because another student challenged me to make a realistic fruit in Lightwave. I accepted the challenge and quickly began work on a pear. A couple hours later I had the model done and the skin textures made. I placed the pear on the stage I had made for a logo animation a couple weeks prior. I thought it would be funny to see a giant pear on a stage with a dancing logo.

The render looks very cartoonish since that was the look I was trying to achieve when I had made the stage scene. I will make a realistic render soon.

In the first semester of the Digital and Interactive Media Design course at NAIT, one of our first assignments was to create a temple. After a few days (and a few sad attempts to make a real temple) I was stumped as to what kind of temple to make. With a deadline looming, I decided to do a fun and non-conventional looking temple. The result was a model that I called a McTemple so I could keep within the assingment parameters.

The whole model took 2 days to create and was never textured. The interior was never completed but I hope to finish it one day.
